About Me

“Good UX means good product, and bad UX means bad product”

- That’s what I would always tell my stakeholders when explaining the value of UX design.

Hello! My name is Zyra, but you can call me Zai. I am currently working as a UX/UI designer at Seventh Sense AI, a tech start-up based in Singapore focusing on creating power-efficient and low-cost computer vision systems.

I started my career as a licensed electronics engineer in the Philippines, but kept getting involved in software development projects. I ended up learning to code while in these projects. After 3 years, I moved to Singapore and switched career as a developer.

My interest in UX design started when we had to do tech support for our digital products. At that time, I wasn’t really aware of the term “user experience design” or that it exists. Getting feedback from our users, them feeling lost and frustrated using our tablet and web applications, I felt their pain. I felt the need to improve these products thinking, I can help them. I initiated revamp projects on these products. From then on, I led the team in designing new digital products.

Analysing human behaviour, why they do the things they do, how it affects others, and the possibilities of change is one of my favourite pastimes. I just enjoy finding answers and solutions.

Another thing I love doing is going on solo backpacking trips. I love to plan these trips, and I would usually plan one major backpacking trip a year. But during these COVID-19 times, I just daydream being on trips. ☹️ And since I won’t be planning any trips soon, I’m setting myself up for some 30/100-day UX and UI design challenges. I’ve been wanting to pick up Motion Design for a while now, and I kept putting this one on hold. Why motion design? ‘Cause conversations shouldn’t be boring, right? And any product interface is where I have conversations with the users. Motion design will be one, and I plan on starting a blog and writing my own journey on doing these challenges.

When I’m not at my desk, I’m quite active. Yes, I’ve put myself in a lot of physical challenges too(most of the time, it’s mental). I would go to the gym 3-4 times a week, go for a run or cycle some days, and paddle with the Gaelic Dragons dragon boat team 2-3 times a week. I’ve served as a communication representative, a club secretary, and recently, one of the vice-captains of the team.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a bit about me. I’m up for collaboration work when I have time, so you can contact me at the email address and mobile number below.
